Things are not looking good for the Liars of Rosewood in "Pretty Little Liars" season 5B, as "A" continues to put the girls' lives in peril.

During Tuesday's PLL Christmas Special episode, the girls received a gift from Mona (Janel Parrish) that led them to all of Alison's (Sasha Pieterse) hiding places in the DiLaurentis' house. This could bring them closer to the truth about Ali, but it could also direct them closer to danger.

The promo trailer for the midseason premier shows a lot of shocking revelations. It starts with Mona's funeral, which gets pretty tense when Ali shows up. The drama begins when Mrs. Vanderwaal (Sydney Penny) confronts Ali and gives her a big, solid slap.

Then Mrs. Grunwald (Meg Foster) reappears, pulling Ali aside. Then they are seen talking with each other at the Rosewood church. When Mrs. Grunwald says, "Each one hated the other because each one feared the other," it seems as if she is talking about Mona and Ali's relationship.

But the Liars should be careful in the upcoming episodes of the season. Next episode, Aria's (Lucy Hale) life seems to be in danger when she and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) are trapped in what appears to be an industrial building. In the trailer, Aria answers a phone call from someone, but it turns out to be "A" who later on attacks her and pins her against a wall.

Ali also tells someone, probably one of her new set of minions, "They're (the girls) next. Unless 'A' kills them first."

PLL creator Marlene King also teased that Aria, Spencer, Hanna (Ashley Benzon) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) will make a life-changing decision in the second half of season 5.

"The girls make a decision in 5B that they haven't been willing to in the past," King mentioned during a Buzzfeed interview. "They'll stand together against an evil they haven't been able to face in the past. This season gets a little darker and it gets a little more dramatic. It's extremely high stakes."

King also admitted that this season, by far, is the darkest one that they have ever made.

"There is a twist towards the end that is by far our most demented and mind-boggling. I have goosebumps just thinking about it. We take a shocking turn and everyone was like, 'Wow, I can't believe this is the show now,'" the series creator said.

The winter premiere of "Pretty Little Liars" season 5 is slated to air on Jan. 6.
