Season 5 of "Pretty Little Liars" isn't officially over yet but there are already a lot of rumors surrounding season 6. According to recent tweets from the producers of the show, it appears that the next season will have less episodes than the first five seasons.

Twitter account @PLLBigA unveiled an image indicating the show will only have up to 20 episodes. The image was then taken down almost immediately, but not before fan sites as well as SpoilerTV were able to save a copy. The photo indicates that there will be 10 episodes in the first half of the season, scheduled to air before summer of 2015, while the 10 back-end episodes will appear after the summer break. With a shorter season, the show would be able to focus on the primary plotline and do away with filler content.

Writer and show runner I. Marlene King announced in 2014 that season 6 and season 7 were already confirmed and set for production, months before season 5 even premiered. It now looks like these two seasons will end the show.

Her latest tweet mentions, "Our fans have been so loyal, and so passionate, and so supportive, and we want them to know that I consider this season to be the beginning of the end of this story."

One of her earlier tweets only mentioned 10 episodes: "It begins. Ten episodes of non-stop gut wrenching effing crazy drama romance mystery a few laughs and answers and answer and answers and answers."

Perhaps at that point only 10 episodes were completely written.

With the season 5 finale rumored to give big hints as to the identity of the mysterious "A," it looks like the supposed last two seasons would deal with the girls facing their enemy head on. Marlene King told the Hollywood Reporter that the identity would be revealed at some point before season 7 airs on TV.
