'Prison Break' season 5 spoilers: Plot goes international, will address 'The Final Break' epilogue

20th Century Fox

The "Prison Break" is set to begin production this early spring and winter but very little information regarding the revival's plot and characters have been released thus far. In a report from TVLine, however, it has been confirmed that the story will take place on an international scale and will occur after the events of "The Final Break."

"The Final Break" served as an epilogue to the series and saw the death of one of the major characters, a character that is expected to make a comeback in the revival season. How this character faked his death and the aftermath of the film's plot will be addressed in season 5.

"The story unravels on an international landscape -- it's not a domestic plot. We open on a very international contemporary-feeling story," Fox co-chariman and CEO Dana Walden explained in the report. She also addressed the fact that the main characters have broken out of prison multiple times and joked, "It's not a documentary!"

It is speculated that this may mean the story and characters will explore areas outside the usual indoor prison facility and the city of Miami, perhaps allowing European and Asian locales to become a new focus on the show. This may become important in order to showcase the international power of the Company, the main antagonist group on the show.

The same report also points out that there is no guarantee Dr. Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) will be making a return to the show. Dr. Tancredi has played a major role in the series thus far but if she does not return, a solution has already been made with the casting of "Royal Pains" alum Mark Feuerstein as Tancredi's husband Scott Ness.

Ness's story and goals have not yet been revealed but the actor has been signed on as a recurring guest star, indicating he will be making an impact on the overall plot.
