After almost seven years, fans will finally get to know Michael Scofield's (Wentworth Miller) fate in the limited season 5 run of "Prison Break."

When the series ended in 2009, fans of the action crime drama saw that Scofield sacrificed his own life to save Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies). But it does not mean that Miller's character will be missing when the series returns this year.

FOX chairman and CEO Gary Newman said in an interview during the Television Critics Association summer press tour in August 2015 that the lead actors of the show will be back for the upcoming mini-series.

"It's going to bring back both brothers, [played by] Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell," Newman revealed.

This means that Scofield's death scene in the season 4 finale was staged. But why did he have to do it in the first place?

The network's co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden revealed to TVLine that the answers will be provided as soon as the series airs.

"It picks up the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show. The brothers will be back," Walden revealed. "Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back. I don't think [exec producer] Paul [Scheuring] knows exactly where he's going over the 10-episode arc, but it definitely will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series for a new audience."

A separate statement from Newman revealed that Scheuring came up with a very interesting twist that will see Scofield alive.

Walden, meanwhile, revealed that the series will feature a modern and international vibe in the story.

However, the network remains mum about the current development of "Prison Break" season 5. But Miller previously posted the front page of the scripts for the upcoming season on his Instagram page.
