'Prison Break' season 5 release date, cast: Dr. Sara Tancredi could die

Michael Scofield shown alive in the Prison Break season 5 promoFOX

It was previously reported that the first teaser trailer for "Prison Break" season 5, the revival season that continues the story that ended back in 2009, has been released and showcases that Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) is still alive but according to a report from Crossmap the character may not have a real happy ending.

According to the report, there are rumors that his love interest Dr. Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) may be killed off in season 5. The character is shown in the trailer as she takes care of her and Michael's son and is even approached by Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) regarding the rumors that Michael may be alive and in prison.

The report points out that the character of Dr. Tancredi was initially going to be killed off anyway, as far back as season 1, but the audiences responded well to her and was kept alive for the duration of the show and even for the movie that ended the series. However, her original fate may be written in to end season 5.

While her death has yet to be confirmed, the trailer does indicate that she will be involved in the series to some degree, and her love life with a new husband may be explored on the show. However, the focus will remain mostly on breaking Michael out of prison, and the trailer gives a few hints and nods on how this may be achieved.

As stated in a report from the Ecumenical News, Lincoln assembles the original team and there are clips in the trailer that suggest that they will break Michael out by taking control of the power grid. By shutting down the electricity, they may be able to break through some of the security defenses of the prison but this may be only a small step in the overall plan.

"Prison Break" season 5 is expected to premiere in early 2017.
