'Prison Break' season 5 release date: new image, storyboard hint at key plot points

Fox

In an exclusive report from Entertainment Weekly, Fox revealed a new image as well as a small segment of the storyboard for the upcoming revival of "Prison Break." Officially labeled as season 5, the images showcase that Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) is not the only one in grave danger.

Season 5 will reveal that Michael, who was presumed dead by the season 4 finale and film, is still alive and that he is imprisoned somewhere in the Middle East. His brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) gets wind of this and immediately shares the information with Michael's former love interest Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies).

The official image showcases Lincoln confronting Sara and the latter appears to look like she is in shock or disbelief. It is undetermined how many years have passed between the season 4 and 5 but if the show follows the real passage of time then it would have been years and by this time Sara may have already accepted the fact that Michael is gone.

However, this information regarding Michael's survival will put both Lincoln and Sara in danger. The storyboard segments showcase the villainous group trying to kill Lincoln through a fast-paced car chase. Villains Van Gogh (Steve Mouzakis) and A&W (Marina Benedict) are responsible for the attack against Lincoln.

"If people start finding out that Michael is still alive, then it puts their larger secret agenda at risk," explained executive producer Paul Scheuring. "They'll kill anybody that finds out."

Lincoln is seen smashing off the road and flies through the windshield of his car. Fortunately, it is shown that Lincoln lands into a pool of water, indicating he may survive the road rage attack. From there it is possible that Lincoln will be forming the rest of the team, along with Sara, in order to break Michael out and to take down the corporation keeping him.

"Prison Break" season 5 premieres in spring 2017.
