'PUBG' game news: CEO wants ubiquitous marketing to other media forms

The developers of "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" (PUBG) want the game to be known to everyone, as the Chief Executive Officer for the game studio has announced that they plan to transform the video game into all media types.

PUBG Corp CEO Chang Han Kim has expressed much enthusiasm in making "PUBG" not just available to gamers but to everyone else as well. In his interview with South Korea's InvenGlobal, Kim has revealed his ambition for the game on behalf of Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene, who popularized the genre.

"I'd like 'PUBG' to become a universal media franchise based on the game. We want to take part in diverse industries including e-sports, movies, drama, cartoons, animation, and more. In fact, we received a couple of calls from a number of developers in Hollywood and Netflix. Our dream is to build a new game-based culture through various ways like this, and have the lead of that culture," stated Kim.

It is not clear how they plan to translate the genre to other media forms since right now, they are focusing first on improving the game on the two platforms it is available in. With that said, and with the ever-growing popularity of the game, fans may not have to wait that long to get a movie or television series adaptation of "PUBG." However, the premise might not be unique since it might share similarities with movies or books that have a Battle Royale plot like "Hunger Games."

Right now, the developers still have their hands full with the PC and Xbox One versions, as well as the upcoming PlayStation 4 (PS4) version of the game. Kim has stated that they had little difficulty with the PC and Xbox One due to how unrestrictive the platforms were in terms of early access or beta allowance. As for Sony, the owner of PS4, things were admittedly more meticulous, and they have to ensure quality before the game gets released on the most popular home console today.
