Apparently, the future of "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" (PUBG) remains unknown, as the game's executive developer has admitted that they do not have a clear plan for the further development of the battle royale game.

PUBG Corporation CEO Chang Han Kim has stated that the development team for the game is currently focusing on improving all aspects of the game before introducing anything new, and this might take as much as the whole year. This means that there might not be anything new in store for the players after the game's recent 1.0 release.

"[So far], we have been focusing on getting out of Early Access, but I think 1.0 as a number is just an iconic milestone. It was just about keeping our promise with the community, because we promised we would launch as soon as possible and ensure the game had everything they wanted. 2.0 and 3.0 don't really have any meaning for us. We see 'PUBG' as an endlessly evolving online product. It's not like we have a clear roadmap with 2.0 and 3.0," said Kim in his interview with Game Industry.

With this in mind, Kim, who is speaking on behalf of creator Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Green, believes that the game right now is perfect as it is. That said, there is room for improvements, especially in the competitive aspect of the game, and they also have to polish it for a more enjoyable experience. Kim added that the development team would be focusing on those two aspects first before trying to add anything to the game, which means the 2.0 version of the game might take a while before being introduced.

This was the case for PC players, while the Xbox One players can look forward to the addition of the Miramar desert map for the console version of "PUBG." 

Regardless of whether this is a good or bad thing for the player base, the developers also seem to be focusing right now on how to make "PUBG" viable for esports, which might happen soon given how dedicated they are at improving the game.
