'PUBG' release date news: PS4 version to come after Xbox One version is complete

Arguably, there is only one reason why the battle royale shooter game genre became so popular in 2017: "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" or more commonly known as "PUBG." While the PC version has been officially released and Xbox One version is in Game Preview, many are wondering when it will come out for the PlayStation 4 (PS4).

When the Xbox One version came out, there was not much news about the game going to other consoles, particularly the PS4. People expected an announcement possibly a few days or weeks later but until now, there has not been any. Fortunately, PUBG Corp. CEO Chang Han Kim recently talked about the PS platform during an interview.

"Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox One are like pre-release, so they don't have a restriction on quality. However, PS is very strict about this," explained Kim. "There were cases where a game took 6 months more to launch even when it was already completed... We need to think about other platforms after evaluating and completing the Xbox One version first."

Although there is no official release date mentioned, it is safe enough to say that PS4 gamers will just have to wait for the Xbox One to be completed. Even then, it is quite hard to give an estimate as to when the Xbox One version will be done.

Right now, the Xbox One game is not doing as well as everyone expected despite being in Game Preview. It has received a few patches with the latest one adding Squad mode. However, the lags and server issues are still there.

The lack of a release date for PS4 actually goes for other platforms as well, like the popular handheld Nintendo Switch. Kim did say that they do not plan on making it an Xbox One and PC exclusive. "If we have the opportunity, the final goal would be to launch the title on every platform," says Kim.
