Qualcomm is one of the leading designers for smartphone processors, used by several high-end phones that have been released throughout the years. The latest processor designed by Qualcomm, Snapdragon 835, is being used by the recently released Samsung Galaxy S8. With Snapdragon 845 rumored to be in the making, does this mean it will be used by the next Samsung Galaxy device and will that make it the fastest smartphone in the market?

Snapdragon 845 will reportedly have a 7-nm manufacturing process. This means that the transistors will have a smaller distance than the 10-nm manufacturing process utilized by the Snapdragon 835. The smaller the distance, the more room for transistors and more transistors means higher performance.

Compared to its predecessor, Snapdragon 835 claims to have a 40 percent increase when it comes to power efficiency and a little less than 30 percent increase in its overall performance. A smaller manufacturing process will provide the next smartphone with better power efficiency and performance, which users can continue to look forward to.

Qualcomm has not confirmed the existence of Snapdragon 845, but since Snapdragon 835 was first given to Samsung for the Galaxy S8, most rumors say that the Snapdragon 845 will first be used on the Samsung Galaxy S9, which is due to be released in the beginning of next year.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm is expected to release a midrange chip this month, Snapdragon 660, which will be used by the Nokia 7 and Nokia 8. This chip comes with high-speed universal flash storage (UFS) 2.1, two LPDDR4 RAM modules clocked at 1.8 GHz, and can support a camera up to 24 megapixels.

Qualcomm is also expected to release two other processors, Snapdragon 630 and Snapdragon 635, at a Bejing event that will be held this month.

Qualcomm is expected to release the successor its of Snapdragon 835 by the end of this year or by the beginning of 2018.
