Hit ABC action series "Quantico" will be launching its third season later this year. Sadly, it also means that fans will have to say goodbye to another long-time character on the show. Aunjanue Ellis, who plays Director Miranda Shaw on the show, will not be back for season 3.

There were earlier reports that Ellis' role will be reduced to a recurring character and no longer a season regular. However, it seems that those plans changed in the last minute to the point that Ellis would exit out of the show entirely.

Ellis was another of recent layoffs in the "Quantico" cast. Series regulars Yasmine Al Massri and Pearl Thusi also left the show last year. Thusi joined the cast in season 2 when she played as Dayana, while Massri was part of the original cast since the pilot.

In addition to these, "Quantico" also had changes not only with their actors but also behind the scenes in the creative department. It has been reported that showrunner Josh Safran gave up creative control of the show to Michael Seitzman, a creator most known for his work in "Code Black."

Fans expect that the change in creative hands will drive the show back to more conventional storytelling. Some media outlets predict that the show will go "back to basics," and may actually have plot points and story lines similar to other crime thriller shows on TV today.

Priyanka Chopra will still be on as one of the show's main characters, of course. She will be joined by other show regulars Johanna Brady, Jake McLaghlin and Russell Tovey.

As for new arrivals, it has been confirmed that Marlee Matlin will be on the show's third season to play a brand new character.

"Quantico" season 3 is scheduled to premiere on April 26, 10 pm Central Time on ABC. Fans are actually worried about the future of the show, because it seems that a release so late will affect its ratings.
