'Quantum Break' news: After delay, game gets impressive pre-order numbers

"Quantum Break" is an upcoming action-adventure, third-person shooting video game by Microsoft and was developed by Remedy Entertainment. It was supposed to be released last fall but was pushed back by Microsoft. Now in its pre-order stage, the tech giant said that they are seeing good numbers.

Sam Lake, game director at Remedy Entertainment, was interviewed by MCVUK and he shared some thoughts about the delay that happened to their soon-to-be-released game.

"Quantum Break" was originally set to release during fall of 2015, together with "Halo 5:Guardians," "Rise of the Tomb Raider," "Forza Motorsport" and a few others. However, it was Microsoft that decided to delay the release of the game since there were other big games the company would release. This would have caused them to compete with one another.

Lake said, "Certainly we were happy to take the extra time and really happy to have that extra time as these are really challenging, complicated projects always. In a big game like this, the polish phase is absolutely essential. We were more than happy to take the extra time. That mainly resulted in much a higher level of polish and iteration and fine-tuning of the experience."

Another part of the plan was for it to be an Xbox exclusive but it was announced last February that "Quantum Break" will also be available for the PC.

Lake said that it is a good thing that Microsoft decided to release the game on the PC platform. Remedy has a strong following on the PC and will make a lot of their fans happy as well, plus there is the benefit of having a wider audience.

Xbox Marketing head Aaron Greenberg mentioned on a TXR Podcast last March 31 that the game's pre-orders are showing a good number and could possibly be a "hit."

Greenberg added that since "Quantum Break" is a new intellectual property (IP) for Microsoft, promoting the game was a challenging one. He said that the tech giant took an "old school approach," going to cities in major countries in order to promote the game. The company is happy that the hard work is paying off.

"Quantum Break" is scheduled to be released on April 5 for the Xbox One and the Windows PC. For those pre-ordering the Xbox One version from the Xbox Store, Microsoft will throw in a free copy for Windows 10, while those pre-ordering via participating retailers, "Alan Wake's American Nightmare" will come along with it.
