The highly-anticipated Xbox One-exclusive third-person shooter action video game "Quantum Break" finally has a release date set in spring next year. Remedy Entertainment's creative director Sam Lake made the announcement Tuesday during the Microsoft Press Conference at this year's Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.

Remedy and "X-Men" actor Shawn Ashmore joined forces to introduce the gameplay trailer and the official release date of the game in front of the participants at this year's Gamescom.

Ashmore portrays the role of Jack Joyce, one of the game's protagonists and the survivor of a failed scientific experiment that ended the life of his brother. He eventually learned that he can freeze time. He is joined by "Game of Thrones" star Aidan Gillen as the main villain Paul Serene who has the ability to look into the future to help him make choices in the present time for his benefit.

The other cast members were also revealed during this week's release date announcement, including Dominic Monaghan as William Joyce, Lance Reddick as Martin Hatch, Marshall Allman as Charlie Wincott, Patrick Heusinger as Liam Burke, Mimi Michaels as Fiona Miller, Amelia Rose Blaire as Amy Ferraro, Brooke Nevin as Emily Burke, Jacqueline Pinol as Sofia Amaral, Jeannie Bolet as Kate Ogawa, Sean Durrie as Nick Marsters, and Courtney Hope as the other main protagonist Beth Wilder.

The highly ambitious time-warping action third-person shooter game that combines typical gameplay with a specially-produced digital show was first revealed during Microsoft's Xbox One reveal back in 2013. It was initially announced for release in 2014, but was delayed to 2015. This was once again moved to 2016.

Microsoft Studios' Head of Publishing Shannon Loftis said in Remedy's official website back on April 2, "With so many Xbox One games launching this year, moving Quantum Break to 2016 extends our incredible portfolio into next year with a monster new IP."

Xbox One players should expect to see "Quantum Break" in stores beginning April 5, 2016.
