Quest begins for Britain's next big gospel artists

A new music competition and TV show on OHTV is offering gospel singers, rappers and MCs the chance to win prizes worth up to £50,000.

The Time2Shine Gospel Talent Quest is being hosted by BBC TV presenter Josie Darby and joining her are judges MOBO Award winners Guvna B and YolanDa Brown, as well as worship artist Mark Beswick, and the competition's creator, Mercy B.

Budding gospel artists are being invited to register for auditions taking place in four venues across London during the month of May.

Lucky hopefuls will be selected for the Time2Shine Music Camp and could go on to bag themselves a top management contract, a website, a music video, an album release and photo shoot, as well as go on a nationwide UK tour.

Darby said, “Time2Shine is going to be brilliant because it's going to be all about the voice! I know Britain has a lot of gospel talent out there, be they singers or rappers and I can't wait to start to find them. It will be great to get out there and meet the gospel stars of tomorrow and help give their voices the platform and attention they deserve.”

Artists selected for the music camp will be put through their musical paces, and will learn the art of gospel music performance from seasoned professionals like Garvin Arthur.

Only 16 finalists, four groups of four from the music camp, will make it through to the finals where they will battle it out to claim their title and prize at the prestigious Central Hall, Westminster.

The competition promises to be an exciting ride with only one group able to win the Time2Shine Gospel Talent Quest top prize.

Mercy B, a singer/songwriter and founder of Time2Shine Gospel Talent Quest, said, “I was inspired to organise the Time2Shine Gospel Talent Quest because I want gospel artists to have the opportunity to enter a competition where they could showcase their talent, learn how to be better artists and win a prize which will enable them to share their talent with the world.

“I hope by having a judging panel comprised of popular gospel acts, and including a music camp component to this talent quest, that the artists who participate in this music initiative will leave as better artists and have a brighter future to look forward to.”
