Rumors started spreading across the Internet that Sylvester Stallone himself announced during the San Diego Comic-Con that "Rambo 5" — currently titled "Rambo: Last Blood" — would be about John Rambo heading to the desert to fight ISIS terrorists. That rumor has now been proven false.

The rumors stated that Stallone held a panel during the event and allegedly stated, "We have teams scouting Iraq and parts of Syria where ISIS have their greatest strongholds. We're working with the locals there to help deliver the most intense and realistic 'Rambo' movie experience ever."

According to a report from Rolling Stone, a representative for Stallone confirmed that he did not make these statements and that the actor was not even present at the 2015 Comic-Con. The representative stated that the rumors are not an accurate report.

This puts the nail in the coffin for the Rambo-versus-ISIS rumors, but that doesn't necessarily mean the actor isn't working on one more "Rambo" film. Stallone made a statement last December via Twitter that he was going to push through with the "Scarpa" film, based on known gangster Greg Scarpa, after doing "Last Blood Rambo."

No other details have yet been released about the film. Stallone and his team have not yet picked a director, neither have they confirmed that a script is done or even in development. Previous rumors from 2013 stated that the film would be titled "Rambo: The Last Stand" and would depict the protagonist fighting a drug cartel in Mexico.

The actor has been proactively going back to his earlier work, with "Creed" — a spin-off of the "Rocky" movies — hitting theaters soon. This indicates that he is bound to revisit "Rambo."

The most recent entry in the franchise, 2008's "Rambo," saw the titular character rescuing missionaries in hostile territories in Burma. The film ended with the character returning home to the United States, effectively ending his story.
