'Ray Donovan' season 3 spoilers: Katie Holmes' calculating character makes Liev Schreiber's Ray answer to her whims in episode 2

Katie Holmes will not be as frail and emotionally sensitive as her iconic "Dawson's Creek" character, Joey Potter, when she returns to the small screen in a recurring role in "Ray Donovan."

If the actress is known for her role as a very loyal sister and best friend in her most popular TV project, it seems her new character will be the exact opposite. In the current season of Showtime's high rating crime drama, Holmes will portray the role of billionaire's daughter Paige Finney. Spoilers describe Paige as the manipulative daughter of big-shot Hollywood producer Andrew Finney (Ian McShane). Paige met the popular "fixer" Ray Donovan (Liev Schreiber) after her father hired him to rescue his son from abductors, but she will also get his services for several other tasks this season.

For "Ray Donovan" season 3 episode 2 titled "Ding," Ray will have to work on what Paige wants her to do even if her father has no idea about it. The official synopsis for the episode reads:

"Paige Finney calls Ray to protect a quarterback; Lena considers quitting."

Although the synopsis hardly reveals anything, viewers can expect to see Holmes having more lines in this episode compared to the previously aired season premiere.

David Hollander, the new series showrunner of "Ray Donovan," said that Paige's complicated relationship with her dad will make Ray think about his own crooked father Mickey (Jon Voight).

"Part of Ray's new job this season is to manage that family. To manage not just the family's needs for him in the business, but the family. So between tasks he finds himself being asked to deal with and watch and protect McShane's character from what Paige might be up to," Hollander told The Hollywood Reporter earlier.

This could mean that Ray will spend a lot of time taking care of a complex family issue, while his own problems at home will be left unattended.
