'Ray Donovan' season 4 spoilers: Ray will deal with the consequences of season 3 finale events

Showtime

A lot of things happened in the third season finale of Showtime's critically-acclaimed crime drama, and fans are already looking forward to find out what's next in "Ray Donovan" season 4.

In the third season finale, the Donovans had an unexpected shootout with the Minassians because of Ray's (Liev Schreiber) dad Mickey (Jon Voight). This almost ended Terry's (Eddie Marsan) life for the second time in the series. Good thing Ray was fast enough to drive his brother to the hospital to save his life. But unfortunately, Michelle (Christy Williams) was not as lucky as Terry. She was killed in an instant during the crossfire as she returned to Mickey's home for Darryl (Pooch Hall).

Viewers also saw how furious Ray's daughter Bridget (Kerris Dorsey) got after he forcibly dragged her out of the hotel room where she and her school tutor Mr. Donellen (Aaron Staton) were staying. Bridget ordered him to let her out of the car, and went home to pack her things so she could run away.

But probably the most shocking moment in the season was when Ray confessed to Father Romero (Leland Orser) that he was sexually abused by another priest when he was younger. This added to Ray's vulnerability, which could be tackled in "Ray Donovan" season 4.

In an interview with TVLine, series showrunner David Hollander said that the emotionally charged episode not only added vulnerability to the series' lead character but also led Ray to look for several self-knowledge in the upcoming season.

Hollander expounded on this idea in a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying opening up about his past with a priest could help him find his own path.

"There will be new situations, a new family dynamic, and along the way that will really impact every member of his family and in a strange way conflate with Mickey again," the series showrunner teased about season 4. "We're really excited about where we're going in season 4, it's going to be an emotional, but big and loud and brassy and visually fun year. With Los Angeles and another city becoming enforcer frames at the same time."

"Ray Donovan" season 4 release date will be announced soon.
