"Ray Donovan" fans will have plenty to look forward to when the hit Showtime series returns for season 5.

In the upcoming season, Ray (played by Liev Schreiber) tries to reunite with his family and church community after his confession to Father Romero. Despite his efforts to turn away from his old ways, Ray's second chance is tested when he crosses paths with his volatile sister and professional boxer Hector Campos.

Executive producer David Hollander recently spoke with Fox News and he revealed some details about the next installment. The executive producer hinted that fans will get to know the Donovan family better as the story progresses.

"You can expect an intense look at the Donovan family in a way we have never seen them before ... Really intense relationship season and Hollywood," Hollander said.

Embeth Davidtz, who plays Sonia Kovitzy on the crime drama, was also present during the interview. While she remained tight-lipped on plot details, she did say that viewers are in for a lot of surprising twists.

"It shocks ... Some real shocks and twists and turns ... Some unexpected stuff," Davidtz teased.

In March, it was announced that Susan Sarandon is joining the show. She is set to play a season-long arc as Samantha Winslow, a motion picture studio head known for being strong and focused on her goals. The 70-year-old Oscar-winning actress' latest project is the Ryan Murphy-created anthology "Feud," where she portrays the role of Bette Davis opposite Jessica Lange's Joan Crawford.

Sarandon's most notable acting credits include "Dead Man Waking (1995)," "Thelma & Louise (1991)," "The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)" and "The Lovely Bones (2009)." The veteran actress will next be seen in the upcoming films "Slipping Away," "Butterfly in the Typewriter," "Going Places" and "The Death and Life of John F. Donovan."

The fifth season of "Ray Donovan" will premiere in summer 2017 on Showtime.
