Teresa Giudice tweeted for the first time since she checked herself into prison nearly five months ago.

"The Real Housewives of New Jersey" star broke her social media silence on Sunday, May 31, as she posted a message to her fans on Twitter, saying, "Thank you everyone for all the cards, letters, and kind words of support I love, love, love you all xo T!"

Teresa is currently serving a 15-month prison sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut after she and her husband Joe Giudice pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit mail, wire and bankruptcy fraud in March 2014.

While in prison, the reality star is allowed to send and receive emails from her family, which are heavily monitored. It is uncertain how Teresa was able to access her social media account, although it is possible that a family member is tweeting on her behalf.

Earlier this month, Teresa celebrated her 43rd birthday in prison, and her fans took to Twitter to encourage her supporters to send her cards or letters to let her know that she is being remembered on her special day. Teresa's tweet may have been in response to the fan call to action to send her greetings on her birthday on May 18.

Teresa's last tweet before her Sunday message was back in December, when she sent words of support to daughter Gia and her girl group, 3KT.

"Me and Joe are so proud of our Gia can't wait to see her and the girls perform on Friday," she wrote at the time.

Teresa will be released for home confinement on Dec. 23 and will complete her sentence in New Jersey until February. Upon completion of her prison sentence, Joe will serve 41 months behind bars. After that, he will face the possibility of deportation as he is not a U.S. citizen.
