Defender Sergio Ramos Garcia reportedly wants to leave Real Madrid, and according to the club's former president, Ramon Calderon, he prefers to transfer to Manchester United.

United has offered a £28.6-million deal to Ramos, 29, who reportedly wants to leave Real following failed talks regarding an extension of his contract that ends in 2017, BBC Sports reported. 

"I know Sergio has told the general manager to listen to offers they get from Manchester United. He only wants to go to United," Calderon, 64, was quoted by BBC Sports as saying. 

Caleron served as Real Madrid president from 2006 to 2009.

"Things are in a very bad situation. As time has gone on, things have not only not improved, they have gotten worse," Calderon said in reference to talks between Real and Ramos regarding the player's contract.

"Now it is not a question of money. It is a lack of affection the player is feeling from Real Madrid," Calderon added.

The former Real Madrid ptresident also spoke about Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, who is on the last year of his pact with the club, and has been drawing interest from Real Madrid.

De Gea and Ramos are set to return to their respective clubs to prepare for preseason training ahead of the 2015-16 season, according to reports.

"They have contracts, so they can't say they won't go unless they have a good reason, like an injury, " Calderon explained. "It is like a game of poker, with David De Gea in the middle."

United already signed forward Memphis Depay, who inked a deal worth £31 million from PSV Eindhoven this summer. 

Along with Manchester United and Louis van Gaal's desire to acquire Ramos, the club also expressed its interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane and Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi.
