Reba McEntire says it was God who gave her the strength to get through divorce
Country star Reba McEntire is crediting her Christian faith for helping her through a difficult divorce process that took two years.
While the divorce was not her idea, in an interview with CMT's Cody Alan she reveals she didn't want to be miserable. She later decided it was the best thing for her to move on to what God wanted her to do. She said that during this time, she prayed really hard for discernment.
"I prayed every day [for God] to help me have the strength to move one foot in front of the other to continue on with what I'm supposed to be doing and why He put me on this Earth in the first place," she said.
The country star admitted that while she was going through her split, she questioned why it was even happening. Reba was married to her manager Narvel Blackstock for 26 years. The reason behind the divorce remains private but Reba did say it was hard to forget the past.
"I have a long list and so many questions for God. Why did this happen? And how did you allow that? Over the last two years I've been going through a divorce. God's way is the best way. And it seems to me that Narvel is happier and I'm in a really good state of mind. It's taken me this time to pull through why and how. And there's been a lot between us and I believe that to forgive is easier than forget," she said in a Parade interview.
Even after the divorce, Reba acknowledged that her faith is what keeps her going. She said that her focus now is her faith and trying to understand what God would want her to do because this is what gives her hope to get through the day.
Reba is poised to release her first album in five years under Nash Icon Records after she recently signed a new deal with the label.
