Several years after the release of "Red Dead Redemption," Rockstar Games finally confirmed the arrival of the highly anticipated sequel. The follow-up to the critically acclaimed title, "Red Dead Redemption 2" will be released late next year.

At a recent event hosted by MKM Partners (via GameSpot), Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar, expressed his thoughts about the upcoming title.

The executive revealed that he was very pleased with the reception that the forthcoming sequel has been getting. Zelnick also pointed out the "Red Dead Redemption 2" teaser trailer that has been viewed immensely by fans since it was released about a month ago. At the time of writing, the minute-long video has already reached more than 8.4 million views.

That being said, the CEO went on to say that the viewership of the reveal trailer can simply mean that the demand for the game is indeed massive and added that they are overwhelmed by it.

During the event, Zelnick explained that when they were about to release the first installment in the franchise, the perception back then was that Western titles wouldn't make it big and they were not likely to compare to the other games being dished out at that time. However, the first "Red Dead" installment proved naysayers wrong.

The Take-Two executive revealed that it is high time once again to roll out another Western-themed adventure shooter. Furthermore, Zelnick mentioned that "Red Dead Redemption 2" will not be just a heartless shoot 'em up title.

"You can expect there to be great story elements and great gameplay elements," he said.

Lastly, the CEO spilled that the upcoming sequel will have an online version just like "Grand Theft Auto V" though further information about it has yet to be disclosed.

"Red Dead Redemption 2" is slated to launch in fall 2017 and will be available on all major game platforms.
