'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date, plot news: New installment to feature online gameplay and new gameplay modes

"Red Dead Redemption 2" will feature new modes and an online multiplayer option. Rockstar Games

As all fans know, Rockstar's prequel to the highly acclaimed wild west shooter "Red Dead Redemption" series is not due to come out until late this year; however, fans can still look forward to juicy tidbits regarding features to be incorporated into the game starting with an online gameplay mode.

Although earlier announcement shared that "Red Dead Redemption 2" is not coming out until October, Rockstar Games seems to have a good point in delaying the release seeing as there is going to be a lot of new features awaiting avid fans of the series.

One of which is the online multiplayer feature. This new setting will see users play with their friends or against each other much like in the first iteration of the game, which some say is the most notable feature in the series.

Despite this reveal, it is still unknown what exact shape the multiplayer mode will take as Rockstar Games is keeping a tight lid on specific details. Some say that the online gameplay may even come as a later DLC patch, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Still in the multiplayer aspect, the new option will also include modes such as Battle Royale, Revive and Survive, and Money Grab. These new additions mirror Rockstar Game's online functionality made for "Grand Theft Auto Online."

More in detail, the Revive and Survive mode will see players divided into two teams in a supposed death match. Meanwhile, Money Grab mode will have players of two teams battling for the loot located in the map, which they have to steal and return to their base.

With regard to the storyline of the new game, as seen in previous trailers, the game will be a prequel to the first title in the "Red Dead Redemption" franchise. It will likely talk about the backstory of the previous game. It will center on the "Van der Linde Gang" -- which Marston was a part of before hunting each of the members down to the last one.

In recent news, the game will be released on Oct. 26, 2018 on the following platforms -- the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, but no other details about a possible port to PC have been announced yet.
