While developer Rockstar Games has yet to directly state that there will be a sequel, fans are already anticipating a "Red Dead Redemption 2" in the works. Such is the clamor for the series to continue that the latest rumors suggest the title will be unveiled in the middle of the year and will be finally released late 2016.

According to Master Herald, rumor has it that Rockstar Games is targeting this year's E3 conference to unveil the sequel. The Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016 is scheduled to be held in Las Vegas in June. Meanwhile, the industry follower added that the developer is targeting an October release for "Red Dead Redemption 2," with the game making it to current-gen Xbox One and PS4 consoles, as well as PC.

While a 2016 release might seem rushed, the industry follower said that the timing is actually right, as it is already five years since the original "Red Dead Redemption" came out.

In addition, it is also rumored that Rockstar Games is rushing to meet the demands of its parent company, Take-Two Interactive. According to Express, while it might sound ambitious for a title to be released shortly after it is announced, having "Red Dead Redemption 2" already out in the market before 2016 ends solidifies Take-Two Interactive's commitment.

The industry observer quoted CEO Strauss Zelnick as saying that they want the "Red Dead Redemption" title converted into a strong franchise like their other games.

"I pretty much know the ones that I can assure you are permanent. It's obvious that 'GTA' is a permanent franchise as long as we keep delivering this incredible quality; it seems quite obvious that 'Red Dead' is a permanent franchise, again with the same caveat, or 'Borderlands,' for example, and 'NBA' and others," the Take-Two Interactive CEO said.
