"Red Dead Redemption" was released six years ago, and its highly anticipated sequel "Red Dead Redemption 2" has been under the spotlight for some time because of its rumored release. The sequel will allegedly be released in the upcoming months this year or sometime next year with a new title.

The popular western-themed action-adventure videogame developed by Rockstar Games still has an unannounced release date. Very little information about "Red Dead Redemption 2's" official release date can be found online, but according to the International Business Times, the much-awaited sequel might come to the market around the same time Microsoft's releases the new additions to its line of consoles, the PlayStation 4 Pro and Project Scorpio for Xbox.

The PlayStation 4 Pro was announced to be released this year in November.

However, Project Scorpio's release is still unconfirmed, leaving fans a bit confused whether "Red Dead Redemption 2" will be released along with the PlayStation 4 Pro this year or with Project Scorpio sometime in 2017.

According to Engadget's interview with Microsoft's Xbox games marketing head Aaron Greenberg, the Xbox Scorpio will greatly affect the console platform, which could mean that much alterations are still needed for "Red Dead Redemption 2" to fit Xbox's Project Scorpio update.

On another note, rumors have also spread that the "Red Dead Redemption 2" might be released mid-October just after the release of "Mafia 3," a game coming out this Oct. 7.

"Red Dead Redemption 2" will be released after "Mafia 3" to ensure that neither game overshadows the other. The latter is a game developed by Rockstar's sister company, 2K games.

Word has also spread that Rockstar's "Red Dead Redemption 2" might be released under a new name. According to rumors, the new name will omit the word "Redemption" from the title, leaving fans to conclude that Rockstar might go with the name "Red Dead 3."
