Fans are still waiting for "Red Dead Redemption 2" and their patience may finally pay off soon. The newest rumor on the block is that the highly anticipated sequel will finally be announced at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016 in June.

A source that reached out to FragHero allegedly overheard a former Rockstar employee talking about the long-demanded "Red Dead Redemption" sequel allegedly in the works for four years now.

The follow-up is allegedly called "Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West." It reportedly features a sprawling map much larger than the earlier iteration and players allegedly have more than one playable character to explore this map as.

Game studio Rockstar is expected to release "Read Dead Redemption 2" in fall next year but fans will get an early taste of the open world action-adventure video game in the upcoming E3.

The same source also claims that an HD iteration of the original "Red Dead Redemption" will be released to the Xbox One and PS4 by the end of this year. The game was one of the most requested games by fans to be eligible for Xbox One backward compatibility.

Meanwhile, FragHero claims that it hasn't confirmed the authenticity of the details from its source. That being said, fans are recommended to take this report with a grain of salt.

For a while now, there have been reports about "Red Dead Redemption 2" releasing anytime soon but neither Take-Two nor Rockstar has made it official. It was, however, hinted by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick that fans haven't seen the last of "Red Dead Redemption."

He was quoted as saying that just like "Grand Theft Auto," the western hit is "a permanent franchise" that Take-Two will continue to enrich in the years to come.

For now, with no confirmation about the game's existence yet, fans will have to wait until June to know if "Red Dead Redemption 2" will indeed appear there and if FragHero's source hits the nail on the head.
