The battle of the queens is in full swing when "Reign" season 3 premieres on Oct. 9. Very aptly titled "Three Queens, Two Tigers," the opening episode for the new season will see Queen Mary continue to feel the upshots of Queen Elizabeth's scheming.

With Queen Catherine on the latter's side, it looks like her victory is already in sight. However, everyone has his or her own set of distractions, and Elizabeth's happens to be Robert Dudley, her first love whom she is tempted to entertain again. In the premiere, this will be shown as her weakness.

Although Elizabeth has her own struggles, she and Catherine have already proven that fans should really fear about Mary's safety and fate as the ruler of Scotland. Although Mary will be in quite a lot of quandary in "Reign" season 3, unlike Elizabeth, love could be her greatest ally.

In the face of Francis's health crisis, Mary and he will use all the time they have left, which they believe isn't all that long, to "achieve some things and to maybe take some short cuts that they wouldn't otherwise take," as showrunner Laurie McCarthy teased in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

She promised that this will result in "incredible poignancy to their relationship." This might just also be the boost the Queen of Scotland would need to end Elizabeth and Catherine's evil tyranny. Unfortunately, this also foreshadows the looming death of Francis.

Meanwhile, fans will also have to acquaint themselves with a new face in the "Reign" season 3 premiere. The newcomer is in the person of Saamer Usmani, who will play the role of the debonair Martin de Lambert. It remains to be seen where his loyalty lies, but fans should find out soon.

In a nutshell, "Reign" season 3 is filled with tension, betrayal, love and new unlikely alliances. The new season officially starts on Oct. 9 with "Three Queens, Two Tigers."
