The premiere of "Reign" season 3 is just days away, but details about its return continue to trickle in for some eleventh hour spoiler splurge. Francis's illness will be further underlined in the upcoming season. Fans will see his health persistently deteriorate, which could be taken as the foreshadowing of his death.

"We're now dramatizing a health crisis for him," showrunner Laurie McCarthy told Entertainment Weekly. "Francis, unlike the previous seasons, is going to move forward believing that his death may be imminent and he will make decisions accordingly," she went on to explain.

The pressing predicament will force Mary and Francis to make decisions and take shortcuts they never thought they would take due to the urgency of the situation. In turn, this will allow viewers to experience "an incredible poignancy to their relationship" in "Reign" season 3.

Believing that Francis' time is up, the pair will try to accomplish everything they need to. Interestingly, although Francis's death is looming, it is highly unlikely that the show won't make it tangible until the end of the upcoming season, as per The Inquisitr.

However, there is already an episode set up to show Francis weakening by the minute. This episode in question is titled "Extreme Measures," which will be aired on Oct. 23. Here, King Antoine and Mary will attempt to hide his condition "long enough to secure his family's future."

TVLine also reported that while Lord Narcisse is projected as a villain, fans will also see him lend a hand to Mary and Francis. His service will be of great importance when the duo's enemies' new scheme becomes difficult enough to be doused by just the two of them.

The site also assured that viewers that aren't fond of Lord Narcisse based on the nature he was introduced in will love him after the premiere, which is titled "Three Queens, Two Tigers," airs on Oct. 9.
