The battle between the three queens has yet to begin on Friday, but The CW already revealed what's in store for the royals from the French Court with a set of photos from the second and third episodes of "Reign" season 3.

Based on the photos posted by TV OverMind and KSiteTV, surprising twists will happen after Queen Catherine's (Megan Follows) plans to thwart Queen Mary (Adelaide Kane) from the French throne with the help of England's Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) backfires. And it seems that she will be more desperate in the coming episodes.

Meanwhile, Mary seems to find solace in her husband King Francis (Toby Regbo). In some of the photos, the estranged couple seems to be happy together. It has been a long time since the two were seen smiling beside each other.

Some of the photos also show the unexpected return of Antoine (Ben Aldridge) in France, as well as an interaction between Bash (Torrance Coombs) and Greer (Celina Sinden).

The second episode of "Reign" season 3 titled "Betrothed" focuses on the effects of the failed conspiracy between Elizabeth and Catherine and Mary's struggles to make several difficult decisions to secure Scotland's fate.

Meanwhile, episode 3 titled "Extreme Measures" will focus on the unannounced return of Antoine in France. Because of this, Mary will have to help her husband hide the fact that his health condition is weakening to secure the future of his family. But since Francis's time seems to be running out, the leaders of the France will reportedly seek the help of an unlikely ally who is in need of redemption.

Series showrunner Laurie McCarthy recently revealed in an interview with the Entertainment Weekly that Mary and Francis will enjoy their time together this season because they believe that the king's time on Earth is running out. "I think he and Mary will soon come to make decisions really believing that his time is limited, and what that's going to give you is an incredible poignancy to their relationship and it's also going to light a fire under both of them to achieve some things and to maybe take some short cuts that they wouldn't otherwise take," the series showrunner said.

"Reign" season 3 premieres on Friday, Oct. 9, on The CW.
