In the ninth episode of "Reign" season 4, Mary Queen of Scots (Adelaide Kane) exchanged vows with Henry Stuart (Will Kemp), styled as Lord Darnley, in a depressing and stressful wedding. In next Friday's episode, the queen is set to face another challenge as she makes a play for the English throne.

Even though Mary wanted to back out of the wedding for various reasons, including Lord Bothwell's (Adam Croasdell) confession of love, it was a good thing she did not because later on, she found out that she was bearing Darnley's child. According to Entertainment Weekly's recap, this child is the "heir spoken about in the prophecy, the heir that will reign over a peaceful and united Scotland and England." Without the bond of marriage, the child would become illegitimate and Mary would lose everything she has ever worked hard to achieve.

The CW released the synopsis for "Reign" season 4 episode 10, titled "A Better Man," and it states that Mary will come up with a plan to take over Elizabeth's (Rachel Skarsten) throne as the latter is still struggling to find the right suitor to marry. Only by marrying the right man will Elizabeth be able to keep her throne and continue to reign over England.

Meanwhile, James (Dan Jeannotte) will get caught up in a scheme that has John Knox (Jonathan Goad) as the mastermind. As a result, James may be left to deal with the dreadful consequences on his own. As to what kind of scheme this is, or if it is related to his previous discovery about Greer (Celina Sinden), remains to be unknown for now.

In the 11th episode, it is said that Mary and Darnley will finally put their plan to take over England into action.

"Reign" season 4 airs Fridays at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
