"Reign" season 4 is touted to be the final run of the show, and it will explore several aspects of Queen Mary's (Adelaide Kane) life back in Scotland, following the tragic events that unfolded in season 3. The show is also rumored to have been delayed so that it would not have to compete against HBO's "Game of Thrones."

Game N Guide reveals that the fourth and most likely final season will focus on Mary's return to her home. While she will be greeted by loyalists and close friends, it should also be noted that others will greet her with enmity, and right from the time she sets foot in Scotland once again, her life may already be in danger, even when she's on her home turf.

A few months back it was also confirmed that Will Kemp has been cast as Lord Darnley. Historically, Mary, Queen of Scots fell in love with Lord Darnley while mourning the death of her first husband. However, this marriage deteriorated quickly when Lord Darnley showed his true side, which was arrogant and violent.

There have been theories that Mary, herself, along with her future husband James Hepburn, the Earl of Bothwell (played by Adam Croasdell), are the ones responsible for his death. As a matter of fact, in history, Mary and Hepburn were looked down upon by many for this crime, particularly Mary's enemies who sought to have her arrested or executed.

Kemp has been signed on for at least three episodes, and it is possible that his introduction and death will be laid out within those episodes alone. Given how season 4 is rumored to be the final run for the series, it is highly unlikely he will be promoted to series regular as it would prolong a plot that needs to be concluded in one season.

"Reign" season 4 is scheduled to premiere in early 2017.
