With the series' season finale in sight, the fourth season of "Reign" is becoming increasingly dramatic and thrilling. Titled "Dead of the Night," episode 11 is expected to be a major turning point for the series' plot.

In last week's episode of "Reign," the Queen of Scots Mary, played by Adelaide Kane, is adamant and determined to keep her throne. So much so that Will Kemp's character, Darnley, felt like a bystander left to the sidelines, tasked to watch everything happen before his eyes. In the "Dead of the Night" episode, Darnley firmly refuses to be left out and suggests a coup against Mary (Rachel Skarsten).

Unwilling to trust someone who once betrayed her, the 11th episode of "Reign" season 4 shows a more cautious Mary. She is aware that the potential murder that will take place will require allies she can trust and finally turns to Bothwell (Adam Croasdell) who receives her with open arms.

As the plot to stage a coup against Elizabeth begins to form and solidify, many fans are now speculating as to whether "Reign" will stick to the historical narration of events where Mary is beheaded or deviate from it.

"We have taken some very generous creative liberties with our storylines, but we have kept the bones fairly accurate. I mean, if we were going to throw the baby out with the bathwater, we would have had Francis live. And then none of this would have happened!" teases Kane, as quoted by TVLine.

According to Variety, the series' abrupt ending could be predicted from its ratings, with season 3 at its all-time low at 0.3 in the demo and just a little over a million viewers. How will the producers redeem the series in its last hurrah?

Based on "Reign" actress Kane's comment, it does seem that Mary's coup against Elizabeth will end with a disaster. Fans are also speculating about the possibility that "Reign" will end its final season with a twist. Episode 11 titled "Dead of the Night" is only the beginning. Indeed, it seems that the season finale "All It Cost Her" on June 16 will be as emotional as it sounds.

"Reign" season 4, episode 11, titled "Dead of Night," will air on Friday, May 5, at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
