Following the success of "Resident Evil HD Remaster" and "Devil May Cry 4 HD," Capcom has announced that they are interested in remaking or remastering their older games. Now, a new announcement directly from Capcom R&D Division 1 director Yoshiaki Hirabayashi confirms that they are developing an HD Remake of "Resident Evil 2."

"You've been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade, and we haven't been able to make it happen... until now!" states Hirabayashi in the video announcement. "We at R&D Division 1 will do our best to take on your feedback and deliver the gameplay experience you've been waiting for."

However, Hirabayashi also explains that it will be some time before fans will hear of another update, indicating that the game is still in the earliest stages of development. After all, it is very likely that the game was just green lit by Capcom executives and Hirabayashi's team may have just been assembled to start working on the project.

No announcement on a proposed release window has been given and Hirabayashi did not specify if the "Resident Evil 2" remake will be available for the PC, Xbox One, PS4 and last-gen consoles or if it will be exclusively released for just one console. However, given how successful their multiplatform releases have been thus far, it is likely that the game will be launched across the board.

As fans await for more information on the "Resident Evil 2" remake, Capcom is already underway in making an HD remaster of "Resident Evil 0," which is set as a prequel to "Resident Evil" as it tells the tale of Rebecca Chambers and the first STARS team that investigates the Umbrella Corporation. This HD Remaster will be released in 2016.

"Resident Evil 2" shifts from the isolated setting of a zombie-infested mansion to Raccoon City as the zombies have now spread out. Amidst the chaos comes Claire Redfield who is searching for her brother Chris — the protagonist of "Resident Evil" — and Leon Kennedy, a police officer on his first day on the job when the zombie outbreak occurs.
