One of the longest-running and most popular survival horror franchises is the "Resident Evil" series from Capcom. It seems that the series is out for another run, as reportedly, "Resident Evil 7" is already in development and may be showcased at the upcoming E3.

Express reported that one analyst, noted industry tipster Dr. Serkan Toto, posted an update that supposedly confirms the new game. Toto said, "About Resident Evil 7: Yes, it's in development. The entire game will go back to RE's horror roots and (essentially) be a clean slate."

The industry tipster added that the next "Resident Evil" will seem to be a collaboration, or else the design will be familiar, as the next game's development added a team member from another production outfit. Toto added, "They will show it at E3. The RE7 team hired Jordan Amaro, a designer who previously worked on MGS V and P. T. at Kojima Productions."

"P.T." is "Playable Teaser," the interactive horror game that served as a teaser to the canned "Silent Hills" project between Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro.

According to GameSpot, "Resident Evil 7" going back to its horror roots is a key detail for hardcore fans, who may feel that the franchise has chosen to focus more on action and role-play. In a previous interview, producer Masachika Kawata said: "Since there's been more spinoff titles, I can see how it can be perceived in such a way. And of course I believe that we should produce titles that bring out the horror. I'm thinking about it and also preparing for it."

Meanwhile, Games Radar surmises that with the emergence of new tech, virtual technology gaming can be a big factor for the next "Resident Evil." The industry follower notes that Capcom has already gone down this road with their "Kitchen" horror game, and it can be expected that the studio will come out with VR gaming for one of their most popular and largest franchises.
