 Constantin Film

Alice's (Milla Jovovich) one final battle with the undead will be bloodier than previous ones, based on the official trailer of "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter."

The film, which will pick up immediately after the events in the previous installment of the "Resident Evil" franchise titled "Resident Evil: Retribution" back in 2012, will be the sixth and final part of the series.

Based on the trailer, Alice will head back to Racoon City where all the chaos began to face her creator, Dr. Alexander Isaacs (Iain Glen). This is also where the Umbrella Corporation is gearing up to launch a final attack on the only living survivors of the apocalypse.

In the trailer, Dr. Isaacs greets the bruised Alice as she arrives at the wrecked Racoon City.

"We've played a long game, you and I," Dr. Isaacs said. "But now, its over."

"In a race against time, Alice will join forces with old friends and an unlikely ally in an action-packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella's impending attack, this will be Alice's most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion," the film's synopsis reads.

The film, written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, also stars Ali Larter as Claire Redfield, Shawn Roberts as Albert Wesker, Ruby Rose as Abigail, Eoin Macken as Doc, William Levy as Christian, Fraser James as Michael and Rola as Cobalt. Lee Joon-gi also joins the cast to portray the role of the Umbrella Corporation's Commander Lee.

The "Resident Evil" film series is being hailed as the highest-grossing movie franchise that is based on video games in history despite its negative reviews. It has managed to gross a total of $915 million worldwide.

"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is scheduled for release on Jan. 27, 2017.
