'Revenge' season 4 episode 11 spoilers: EP talks about Daniel's death

Facebook: Revenge

The winter finale delivered one of the most shocking deaths in all of "Revenge" history. It is safe to say that no one saw it coming, not even the most avid fans of the show. Last Sunday, viewers bade farewell to Daniel Grayson who gave up his life to save Emily.

Episode 11 will make its premiere on January next year when the midseason returns. That's enough time to take in what just happened.

In the previous episode, Kate fatally wounded Daniel, but she was really aiming for Emily. Daniel took the shot as a way to redeem himself. Jack entered the Grayson manor and shot Kate, then Emily and Daniel shared a very touching last moment together.

The title of episode 11 is "Epitaph" and seeing that the title is another word elegy, it looks like it will focus on the aftermath of Daniel's death. On the other hand, the promo for the episode also shows David with his new plan — to kill Victoria Grayson.

What will be the effect of Daniel's death and why him out of all the characters? Executive producer Sunil Nayar explains tons of things to TV Line. For one, he said that Josh Bowman (Daniel Grayson) was ready to take one for the team knowing his character's death will set things in motion.

"Josh [Bowman] and I spoke at the beginning of the season about the journey we wanted to take Daniel on," Nayar said. "He and I were on the same page, wanting to take a big swing at the end of our winter finale, and wanting to see if we could do it in a redemptive way; that moment between [Emily and Daniel] was so beautiful at the end. It was also a way for us to keep shifting what the show is about so we never get complacent and the audience never knows what's coming next."

Nayar continued to describe that last moment between Emily and Daniel as "so touching and beautiful," that Daniel's death was noble and he understood what is was to be a responsible human being at the end of it all.

How are the other characters in the show taking Daniel's death? Victoria feels guilty and not guilty, and she will use the tragedy to make Emily feel guilty. As for David, his plan is temporarily derailed. As for Malcolm Black, he is definitely not happy about his daughter Kate's death. And for Jack, he feels miserable about what happened, but he also bonds with Emily through this ordeal.

It was revealed that Margaux is pregnant, and what happened to Daniel certainly won't make her happy. Her rage might lead her to team up with Emily, but her sorrow won't be good for her unborn child.

Indeed, Daniel's death has set a lot of new things in motion. All-new "Revenge" will return on Jan. 4, 2015 on ABC.
