Richard Attenborough dies at 90, son confirms
English actor Richard Attenborough has died at the age of 90, according to his son Michael, who confirmed the news to BBC.
Attenborough was widely known as a film director, producer, and actor. He has won numerous awards for his works, including two Academy Awards for Ghandi, four BAFTA Awards and four Golden Globe Awards.
Attenborough was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1967 for his works. He was also made a Knight Bachelor and made a life peer as Baron Attenborough.
Attenborough is most recognized for his roles in Jurassic Park and Miracle on 34th Street.
In 2008, Attenborough suffered a stroke and had since been confined to a wheelchair. He was later moved to a nursing home in London in 2013.
Attenborough was the older brother of David Attenborough, who was a naturalist and broadcaster.
The actor was married to English actress Sheila Sim since 1945.
In 2004, the tsunami in the Indian Ocean killed his mother-in-law, eldest daughter and grand-daughter.
