It's no surprise that "Rick and Morty" has been renewed for another season, but fans have yet to wait for further announcements on its release date.

It's still a long way to go before "Rick and Morty" season 3 since it is said to be released in 2017, Movie Pilot reported. However, the news outlet added that there's a possibility it could arrive sooner though.

As for the plot, season 3 will not be showcasing a time travel storyline, Movie Pilot continued and there's a reason series creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have chosen not to incorporate it to the story.

Doing a time travel story would be a complicated thing to pull off, both Roiland and Harmon agreed. "Time travel is a real shark-jumper. Once you introduce it to the canon of your show — it's just a dangerous toy to pull out," Harmon said, according to Comic Book Resources.

Currently, "Rick and Morty" season 3's official release date has yet to be known, but it should be back on Adult Swim by 2017.

Fans who are missing the odd adventures of the titular character are in luck because a special episode of the animated series is coming their way. "Rick and Morty 2.5" will be showing at Cinefamily in Los Angeles on Dec. 11.

"Join creators #JustinRoiland and @danharmon along with writer Ryan Ridley, for an improvised episode of Rick and Morty!" the announcement on Cinefamily website stated.

This should be a great way for fans to keep the hype of "Rick and Morty" going.

In other "Rick and Morty" related news, Harmon reportedly revealed that a role-playing game (RPG) version of the animated series is in the works. If a video game will be pushed through, the show creator envisions the series to be merged with "Minecraft."

Roiland, on the other hand, seems up for it. "If someone at Ultimum calls us and says 'let's publish a game, for real' -- let's do it!" he said, as reported by Enstarz.
