"Rick and Morty" season 3 is expected to be released next year, although creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon hope the new season will make it this year.

There will be 14 episodes in the upcoming season, which means that fans will get extra four episodes to spend time with the gang.

It is unclear if this will impact the timing of the "Rick and Morty" season 4 premiere, although it will definitely prolong the production process.

Despite this, Roiland and Harmon are hoping the show will be back as early as the end of the year. The staff is working hard to meet that target, and the addition of new writers could help that.

Harmon revealed to Den of Geek that they added a crop of new writers but not for the reason of speeding things up, but rather, to satisfy the "craving for a gender balance in the writers' room that we had never had."

"I'm also very proud of the fact that we didn't compromise ourselves following that craving. We just looked harder," Harmon said.

"And I don't know if it was coincidence or because the show was popping up on the radar of a lot of great female writers noticing, 'Well, they don't have any women writers in there. I'm gonna submit something.' It was probably a combination of all those factors," he added.

Fans have expressed worry about this off-screen change, although many of them believe in Harmon and Roiland in making "Steven Universe" season 3 a great one despite the changes, which Harmon even deems will help the show.

As for the plot, fans won't have to worry about Rick's seemingly helpless situation as he will find a way to get out of there, presumably with Morty's help.

Speaking of the young lad, it looks like he will have some family issues this season, with his parents rumored to get a divorce.
