'Rick and Morty' season 3 release date: new season to premiere 2017?

A "Rick and Morty" comic book will be out soon, and it comes as a perfect compensation for fans for the lack of official details regarding the third season of the hit Cartoon Network series.

The comic book, which will be the second for the cartoon, is penned by veteran cartoonist Tom Fowler. He is taking over for Zac Gorman, who wrote the first one. This will be his first time doing a story for a comic book since he is known for his illustrations.

During an interview with Paste Magazine, Fowler emphasized that it isn't much of a transition for him given that he considers comic book artists like him as co-authors of the story. "Rick and Morty" won't be any different.

"Your whole job as somebody who draws comics... you are the storyteller. You're the one who realizes the story for an audience," the cartoonist said. "You have a voice at the table, you're the first person to notice when something isn't working and the first person who can fix it," he added.

As for "Rick and Morty" season 3, there are rumors that it won't premiere until next year -- in March to be exact. The second season wrapped up last October, but since then details about the new season have been scarce.

What's clear is that a group of new writers are working to put together "Rick and Morty" season 3. Program co-creator Dan Harmon confirmed to Den of Geek that the show has new female writers on board, adding that the writers' room is now "50/50 balance."

Harmon also teased that "things should be okay pretty quickly" even after what happened in the final moments of the second finale.

Meanwhile, those who have been wanting "Rick and Morty" to cross over to "Gravity Falls" will be disappointed to learn that it would not happen despite the shows' similarities. It is said that "Rick and Morty" has no time travel element, which is a big deal in "Gravity Falls."

Fans can, however, look forward to a game called "Pocket Morty" inspired by the Cartoon Network favorite and the Nintendo game "Pokemon."
