Originally released decades ago in 1989, "River City Ransom" is returning on Nov. 21 with a long overdue remake of the 3DS. The beat 'em up is back in all its pixelated glory.

The game's plot is simple enough for a fighting game. "River City Ransom" puts players in the shoes of Kunio. Riki's girlfriend has been kidnapped and Kunio has three days to help his friend and rescue her. That, and to figure out why a bunch of thugs is specifically targeting him. Kunio has lots of questions and he needs answers.

The "River City: Rival Showdown" trailer was uploaded to Natsume's YouTube Channel on Nov. 3. While short, the trailer featured the battles players would find themselves in once they picked up the game and a glimpse at the game's character design and level design. Similar to its predecessor, "River City: Rival Showdown" is a game about beating people up. Players choose between Kunio and other characters and are pit against different foes.

In combat players will be able to unleash their different skills are they try to progress and get answers regarding the whereabouts of Riki's girlfriend and why they were even targeted in the first place. It's a simple beat 'em up game with a simple storyline, ideal for players who want to coast through the chatter and head on straight to the part where they get the opportunity to beat people to a pulp.

The game is a Nintendo 3DS exclusive, and those who pre-order it will receive a Riki Keychain.

"River City: Rival Showdown" is somewhat similar when compared to its predecessor "River City Ransom." The former which was released in 1989 followed the adventures of Alex and Ryan. Similar to Kunio, Ryan's girlfriend was kidnapped by a villain and Ryan and Alex need to go across town and beat up bad guys in order to get answers.

Fans of the original game will be in for a nostalgia treat this November.
