"RoboCop" may finally be given justice in the modern film industry, as the filmmakers of an upcoming sequel are keen on following the story of just the 1987 movie instead of the 2014 remake or any other sequels.

This means that the continuity that the upcoming "RoboCop" will be following will be that of the original, and as such, it will have a lot of references and related characters in it. This essentially makes it a belated sequel or reboot, which may be a good thing since the 2014 remake was not exactly a blockbuster. It only received 49 percent positive critic aggregate scores in Rotten Tomatoes and the same score for audience aggregates.

Ed Neumeier, the writer for the original 1987 "RoboCop," has spoken up about the matter positively. He said, "It's nice that people are still interested in 'RoboCop' and they have me working on a new one at MGM right now so maybe we'll get another one out of it." Apart from that and a few other expectations, Neumeier was not allowed to say more, but he was excited about the prospect since the upcoming "RoboCop" is a nod to the classics.

Right now though, there is no major announcement yet as to what the story or plot of the next "RoboCop" will be about, just that it would continue what the original has started. It is worth noting that there have been other sequels apart from 2014's "RoboCop" which came after the 1987 movie. However, these were not quite up to scratch with what the original brought to the table, and they were not able to capture the same movie magic as the original.

This is why the next "RoboCop" movie will be ignoring all the sequels. For those unfamiliar, the 1987 "RoboCop" from Paul Verhoeven was quite a masterpiece due to its dark comedy and nihilistic themes, which still hold up well even for today's film industry standards. Neumeier was confident that people are still interested in the franchise, which is why he was also hired to write for the upcoming one.
