Developers of "Rocket League" proudly announce the new milestone of their game

"Rocket League" has skyrocketed to fame and success thanks to its massive player base, which is now clocking in at 40 million players worldwide.

The wacky automobile football game has reached a new milestone, with Psyonix, its developers, declaring that the game has now reached its 40-million-player threshold. The developers have taken to Twitter to thank its ever-growing community of players, stating that it would not have been possible without them.

This was quite an upsurge in the number of players for the game since just two weeks ago, the reported number was 38 million. This could mean that "Rocket League" was one of the most bought or sought after games during the Holiday season, which is quite likely given how fun and accessible it is for everyone.

One important thing to note is that this player count did not necessarily reflect the number of sales for the game. Since, according to Gamespot, the said figure includes people playing on guest accounts and such. The game has also launched in July 2015 as a PlayStation Plus freebie for the PlayStation 4 (PS4). While adds up to the player number, it did not add up to the sales since it was free back then.

Still, the game is seeing a continuous success, which is why the developers have decided to not make a sequel for it yet and simply plan to improve the original before any discussions for a sequel arise.

"Our goal was to keep making Rocket League better and better so that we don't lose any of the people that want to play. If they're playing our game, we're not going to penalize them and make them buy our game again just because we want to add a couple new features. We want to let them know we're in it for the long haul if they're in it for the long haul," said Jeremy Dunham from Psyonix.

This means that they have big plans for 2018 and are not done yet with updating the game and adding more to it. Players can expect this on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions of the game.
