'Rocket League' news: Season 2 patch making big changes

"Rocket League" will be receiving some significant changes coming via a new season 2 patch.

According to the developer's post on the game's Steam page, season 2 will focus less on individual wins and losses, and instead put more weight behind how well "Rocket League" players perform over a sustained period of time.

In pursuit of that, Psyonix is instituting a revamped promotion/demotion system that does not penalize or reward too much based solely on single matches.

Instead, players can now only be promoted to a higher division after they have displayed a consistent ability to play well, and in that same vein, they will not be demoted just because they happen to have a couple of bad matches.

Speaking of divisions, "Rocket League" will now feature 12 different classifications instead of just 10.

The players will actually start out as unranked for season 2, but that will only last until they have yet to complete 10 matches inside "Rocket League."

Once players have completed 10 matches, they can now be grouped into one of the 12 divisions, with those being Prospect I, Prospect II, Prospect III, Prospect Elite, Challenger I, Challenger II, Challenger III, Challenger Elite, Rising Star, All-Star, Superstar, and Champion.

Beyond the 10 matches that players need to complete in order to receive a new ranking for "Rocket League's" second season, they should also know that their ratings from season 1 will greatly impact the score they ultimately receive.

Furthermore, there will no longer be a cap placed on the number of players that can be included into "Rocket League's" highest division in season 2, NDTV reported. This means that if a player is good enough to be a champion, then the division they belong to will reflect that, regardless of how many other competitors are qualified.

Other changes being made to "Rocket League" include "ranked play" being changed to "competitive matchmaking."

Rank points are also being removed in season 2 of "Rocket League."

"Rocket League's" season 2 patch is being released in February, although the exact date of its arrival remains unknown.
