'Rocket League' news: Winter Games event taking place in December

"Rocket League" may be best described as football with car; but starting Dec. 14, that description will be changing, at least for a while.

Starting on that day, "Rocket League" will be welcoming a bunch of new changes and items that will give it that distinctly winter feel.

First off and as announced on the official PlayStation Blog, the game will be featuring a hockey-inspired mutator, named Snow Day, beginning on that date. For those who have been playing the game for a while now and have been wondering what it would be like with a puck instead of the standard ball, they will finally receive the answer to that question next month.

Aside from the puck, there will also be a new ice field coming to "Rocket League" on that day to ensure that it really does give players the feel of being involved in a hockey match.

Along with the new puck and ice rink coming to "Rocket League," fans can also look forward to the many items that will become available as part of the Winter Games event, Gamespot reported.

There will be seven different items being made available via the Winter Games event.

The list includes candy cane and holiday gift antennae, Blitzen, Christmas tree, sad sapling, and Santa toppers as well as a new Xmas rocket trail.

All of the items that will be included as part of the Winter Games event can be unlocked through playing matches in "Rocket League."

Unfortunately for players, the Winter Games items will only be available for a limited run, with the end date being Jan. 4. They are also harder to acquire than most other items in "Rocket League" as they will be rarer drops at the conclusion of games.

The good news for players is that the Winter Games items they do acquire will be in their possession permanently, and even if they miss out on a few, they can still wait for them to come back around next year in "Rocket League."
