'Rocket League' update: Patch 1.17 now live; Hoops mode updates and more

Hoops just got better with the latest "Rocket League" updatePsyonix

"Rocket League" developer Psyonix improves the basketball experience in its newly released Hoops mode (launched yesterday, April 26) with a brand new update for the game – patch 1.17.

The "Rocket League" update ensures definitive gaming experience in the brand new basketball-themed DLC added to the beloved soccer-racing hybrid.

For "Rocket League" fans to make the most of the basketball mode, Psyonix made available the $2 "NBA Flag Pack" DLC, which adds 30 NBA teams to the game from Atlanta Hawks to Golden State Warriors and all the way to Washington Wizards.

The patch adds Dunk stats to the game, which means that players who score carrying an NBA flag can increase their stat on that particular flag.

The Hoops mode comes with a free arena called Dunk House, where the net doubles as a ramp for the ball. Psyonix says that in this arena, Aerials and wall-play "is the key to victory."

The Hoops 2v2 mode was made an unranked playlist in "Rocket League." Players can also access the mode in the Private Matches and Exhibition mode that determines no limit in the number of members in a team.

As expected, the "Rocket League" patch also brings along bug fixes and tweaks to make gameplay smooth. The update also allows players to trigger an automatic replay save mid-game as well as name and rename replays.

Other general changes from the "Rocket League" patch 1.17 are as follows:

  • Exhibition and Private Match now have a "Game Mode" selector. The mode you select determines which maps you can choose – for instance, "Hoops" can only be played on the "Dunk House" map.
  • During Overtime, the in-game UI clock now counts upwards to indicate how long the overtime has lasted.
  • New "Cosmic" Arena has been added to the "Rocket Labs" playlist.
  • After scoring in Free Play, there will no longer be a 3/2/1 countdown.
