A new report from Making Star Wars reveals the possible names for the characters being played by Mads Mikkselsen and Forest Whitaker. Both of the revealed names give subtle clues regarding their character and how they will connect to the main protagonist, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones).

According to the report, Mikkelsen's character is named Galen. Mikkelsen reportedly signed an autograph a few weeks before and he did sign using the name Galen. Given that Mikkelsen stated he is playing the father of Jyn Erso this would make his character's full name Galen Erso.

Unfortunately, it does not reveal if he is a loyalist to the Old Republic or if he is working for the Empire. His connections to the larger "Star Wars" universe and characters have yet to be revealed. However, it is stated that Galen appears to be the final name for the character and is not just a code name.

Whitaker's character is reportedly named Castro. According to /Film this may indicate that the character is a known leader in the Rebellion since it draws inspiration from Fidel Castro and the rebellion in Cuba. Unlike the name Galen, it is speculated that Castro is merely a codename and that the name in the movie is different.

It is further stated that codenames are quite commonly used in "Star Wars" to avoid spoilers from being leaked. The report states that Rey (Daisy Ridley) in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was previously referred to by the codename Kira.

The official trailer for the film showcases a lot of Whitaker's Castro and it is implied that he is some sort of Rebel general or advisor that Jyn Erso must contact. Mikkelsen's character has been left out of the trailer, potentially to avoid plot spoilers.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will release in theaters this Dec. 16.
