It was previously reported that Disney was allegedly unhappy with the cut of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and the studio was demanding for reshoots to fix the tone and alter several scenes. According to an update from the Hollywood Reporter, stunt coordinator Simon Crane and screenwriter Tony Gilroy have been brought in specifically for these reshoots.

Gilroy is most popular for penning the scripts for the "Jason Bourne" trilogy and the Academy Award-nominated film "Michael Clayton." Crane is known for his work handling the action sequences of Tom Cruise's "Edge of Tomorrow" and Brad Pitt's zombie flick "World War Z."

As stated in the report, Gilroy's involvement may be to lighten the tone of the film while still maintaining its war aesthetic. This is being done to broaden the appeal of the movie, particularly given that the family-friendly "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" proved to be a financial success, earning over $2 billion worldwide.

However, according to a report from Entertainment Weekly, these reshoots have been planned since the beginning and were never about fixing problems with the movie. The report also states that there have never been test screenings and that the gritty tone of the film was intentional.

The report also reveals that Gilroy, who has directed three films in the past including "The Bourne Legacy" starring Jeremy Renner, is rumored to be involved in directing the reshoots alongside director Gareth Edwards.

While the exact length of the planned reshoots have not been stated it is expected to last up to six weeks.

Despite the conflicting rumors, Gilroy and Crane have been confirmed to work on the film and even with the scheduled reshoots the movie is still releasing in theaters on time.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will hit theaters this Dec. 16.
