Nintendo Switch is building up its roster of interesting games, as the "Rogue Trooper Redux" port for the handheld console gets a release date alongside the remasters for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Developer Rebellion has recently confirmed that the Switch version will be released alongside the aforementioned remastered editions for the home consoles and the PC. An official gameplay trailer has also been released alongside the release date announcement for the Switch version. The trailer shows the inspiration for "Rogue Trooper Redux," being based on the "Rogue Trooper" comic series from the 2000AD universe, gave the premise of the game.

Players will get to control a Genetic Infantryman (GI), a genetically engineered human being made for the purpose of being the ultimate soldier, the blue-skinned commandos are built to withstand the toxic atmosphere of fictional Earth in the franchise. The game will give players several approaches on how to eliminate enemies from straight up firefights to more discreet stealth takedowns using the GI's mutations to their advantage.

Dan Whitehead from Eurogamer even praised the game back in 2012 before it was remastered or even announced for the Switch saying that "Rogue Trooper Redux" is "a perfect example of the sort of game we're seeing less of as the industry's middle tier gets squeezed out of existence; a solid, unpretentious action game with thoughtfully executed features". The game also has a favorable community reception for the original versions back in 2006, with a user metascore of 8.2 and 8.3 on the PlayStation 2 and the PC respectively.

"Rogue Trooper Redux" is about the last remaining GI who, after having exhausted his usefulness, was betrayed by his superiors at the Quartz Zone massacre. Players will then have to step into his shoes as a one-man squad to fight their way across the chemical wastelands of chemical-blasted wastes of Nu-Earth amidst its endless apocalyptic war to find and kill the General who betrayed them.

The remastered edition's features, notably the high-definition (HD) graphics, remodelled assets, dynamic lighting, enhanced geometry, and new special effects, will also be included in the Switch version. "Rogue Trooper Redux" for the Nintendo Switch will be released on Oct. 17.
