Roku 4 specs review: improvements make it a top quality streaming device

 Roku Official

Roku 4 was previously reported to arrive in fall, and it delivered its promise as the device is now available.

According to Hacked News, Roku has maintained its impressiveness over the years and the previous models have been improved to become a much better device. However, the newest edition is dubbed by the outlet as a "work of digital era art," having carried a simple interface yet perform excellently as a streaming device.

The report further stated that Roku 4 is a top quality media device that has the capability to showcase 4K HD images, making it a strong rival of the big names such as Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV.

Roku 4 still has its limitations especially on the options for UHD streaming, 4k.com noted. Nevertheless, the new device still offers several features to users who have ultra HD TV.

The device now measures 6.5 x 6.5 x 0.8 inches and still bears the flat and low design. The remote takes on a new appearance, plus it now comes with a voice search feature.

The Roku app also underwent a major improvement. In the previous Roku app, it's more like a smartphone-based remote control.

Now, the app comes with that voice search feature where users can enter commands verbally or thru text via an on-screen keyboard.

Users can also add in more apps using Roku's channel store. In addition, one can playback videos, play music, and photos from the person's phone on the device.

Images from the library can also be used as a screensaver art for Roku, noted Yahoo Finance.

Among the other upgrades seen in the latest Roku version is the 256 MB storage capacity for various apps; a new quad-core processor; built-in Optical Digital Audo; a mobile app; and Wi-Fi 802.11ac.

Among the important flaws observed in Roku 4 is its lack of HDR support for the box and its high price.

The new Roku 4 is selling for US$129.99, a price considered to be the highest among all Rokus. Hacked News also mentioned that Roku 4 is even more expensive than the latest version of Fire TV.

But all in all, the new device got quite a high rating based on several reviews.
